Haddonstone Balustrading
is of equivalant quality and design to highest European
standards. The baluster offered is taken from a Georgian design book
without modification for easy casting, so that all the details are
correct and all the edges are crisp in appearance. This has made the
element a key in adding great architectural valueto fine homes in the
best suburbs of Sydney, Melbourne Brisbane and Adelaide. (see drawings )
SPECIFICATION NOTES FOR ARCHITECTURAL REFERENCE
BEDDING JOINTS - the balustrading should be bedded and jointed using 1:
1:6 cement lime sand mortar. Bedding thickness 8-10 mm.
POINTING is optional, 3 -joints should be pointed with great care using
rendermix to which has been added a little coarse river sand. All
mortar pointing should be cleaned with fresh clean water, replaced
every half an hour at the minimum. Flexible grout joints are
recommended. Try Sikaflex flexible grout in the appropriate colour.
FIXING DETAIL - We recommend that the following fixing details are
adhered to, particularly when balustrading is to be used in a public
place.
SPACING. We recommend that 230 mm from centre to centre be used as an
initial spacing measurement. Council approval for such details is the
owner's responsibility.
DOWELLING The balustrade COPINGS and PLINTHS should be dowelled at
approximately 500 mm centres into the foundation.
The BALUSTERS will be provided with 6mm stainless steel pins to top and
bottom for additional safety fixing. Please ensure that every third
baluster is pin fixed.
The PIER PLINTHS should be dowelled into the foundation, dowel to
continue up
core of the pier shaft.
The SHAFT should then be filled with dry mix, 1:6 clean washed sand and
cement. A column fixing plate should be used as additional
reinforcement with every pier.
NOTE CAREFULLY , occasional hairline fissures to the neck of the
baluster are characteristic of the material when subjected to the
stresses of transport and site handling. This does not indicate a lack
of strength in the element.
STAIRS: stair installations should be drawn up before commencement and
details of the connections between pier cap and base and balustrading
cap and base should be understood and agreed.
Mid-air shoulder mitres and similar details should be considered with
care before commencement.
